The Clatter of Value

I have no anxiety of the anxious sort.

And so, in this brief moment of quietness, I have it—life.

The period of stillness between the two darknesses.

And so, here, I think.

I Am.

I am being.

It’s so simple.

Simple as a thought—the thought.

And in the same way it can’t be stopped.

Nothing can be stopped.

Think—yes, think.

And imagine—yes, imagine.

A sky.

A horizon.

A joining.

A beautiful line.

And a fragrance.

Yes, a scent.

And contact.

Contact with it all.

The picture of a touch.

Seeing a touch.

Yes, seeing and scenting a touch.

The delectable world of sensation.

Overcoming.

And so I am, being, in this momentary pause in the clatter.

Seeing, imagining, feeling, sensing.

And I know this is all there is of being.

How could we imagine more?

How could we think more?

How could we picture more?

How could we sense more?

Yes, being is being—being.

Being aware—aware.

No complications.

The simple line.

Staring to the horizon, where the world drops off.

The edge of the world.

The line between the light of sensation and…

I pause.

For a moment I'm unsure.

What lies over the edge?

Do I know?

Of course not.

Could it be dark? Or even lighter?

How could I know?

But, one day, not to be caught.

Then I’ll know.

But for now, in the world of sensation, as we chase headlong to the cliff edge, above the edge but always approaching it, we know—we know whatever it is we know.

Simple knowing.

Whatever it is, knowing it, or of it.

And knowing we know it, or of it.

The delight of it.

That delight at the recognition of it—of knowing our own self as we know what it knows.

Staring into our own being.

Simple.

Touching.

Momentary.

Fractional.

Destined.

Yes, and all the time running to the headland—chasing into the unknown; into the darker or the lighter.

So simple.

And it can’t be stopped.

As if we should want to stop it—this wild, incredible chase to the edge.

And so, for now we think, are present, are being—thinking-ness, present-ness, being-ness.

Yes, in this sweet stillness of my moment, I listen, and look, and feel, and sense the wonderful clatter of it all.
