Those Thousand Smiles

But those 'thousand smiles you give to me free',

And the way you swing your arms for me,

And how you dip for me,

And bob for me,

And stare at me and into me,

And tell me you are mine, and yes, whatever that means, you tell me you are mine.

And those thousand things—those treasures,

Like the shiny pebbles in the shallows as I swim amongst them,

Dappled by the dappling light,

Speckled by the shimmering light,

Are the thousand golden glittering flecks you sprinkle around me.

And there, bathing in that gifted rain, no darkness threatens,

No ink black depths pull me down,

No snapping jaws bite at my heels,

No blank and leering eyes stare from their stalks,

No unknown beast lurks in the caverns that cover the floor of the terrible sea.

Those thousand smiles command me, determine me to only one purpose.

To say I love you.
